Now Covering the Quinquage-State Area
by at 3:15 PM
When we decided to tout how our local news forums were performing, we thought we’d give them a bit of scale. In particular, we thought it was interesting that on a daily basis, the number of active, local forums on Topix now exceeds the number of daily newspapers in the United States. Now that’s saying something. That’s giving everyone the opportunity to participate in the news that matters to them.
In the last year, Topix has grown by any measure:
• We’ve moved up 6 spots in comScore’s News & Information category rankings, and are now #16
• We have DOUBLED (and then some) our daily forum posts to more than 70,000 comments a day since we launched our new platform in April (133% growth)
• Our two-week-old polls have generated more than 4,300 polls. Some silly. Some local: Henderson, TX; Whittmann, AZ; Hayti, MO; and Winnfield, LA. And some sublime.
A virtual printing press for every small town in America.
If you want to learn more about the local forums on Topix, you can catch us this week at two events: Chris Tolles is participating at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco tomorrow, and Blake Williams will be in Toronto for the Online News Association’s annual confab, participating in a panel on managing online communities.
